Finch flays Bulls at MCG
A brutal display of hitting from Aaron Finch guided Victoria to a healthy total of 4 for 188 in its Twenty20 match against Queensland at the MCG.
Finch scored 58 on Sunday night to dominate an opening partnership of 98 with Brad Hodge, who made 39.
The 24-year-old Finch, who has nominated for next weekend's Indian Premier League T20 players' auction, smashed eight fours and two sixes www.goldengoosesneaker.us/ from 38 balls before holing out to long-on in the 11th over.
Hodge fell next over after hitting six boundaries.
Queensland almost struck a third time in the 14th over when David Hussey was caught in juggling fashion by Chris Lynn and Nathan Reardon at deep mid-wicket off Chris Simpson's bowling.
But the ball had been carried over the rope by Lynn initially and was ruled a six.
Matthew Wade's innings of 19 ended when Ben Cutting took a sensational high-leaping catch at long-off in the following over.
Victoria had been set for a 200-plus total after reaching 0 for 96 at the 10-over mark.
Queensland hit back in the second half of the innings but the Bushrangers surged again with skipper Cameron White (23) and the aggressive David Hussey (42 not out) adding a quickfire 43 for the fourth wicket.
Hussey's unbeaten knock came from only 23 deliveries with three fours and two sixes.
Simpson, Cutting, Nathan Rimmington and Michael Neser took one wicket each for the Bulls.
The partnership between Finch and Hodge was the third-highest opening stand in the six-year history of the domestic T20 competition.
Western Australia's Shaun Marsh and Wes Robinson hold the record with their 168-run partnership for the first wicket against NSW in Perth last summer.
Finch and Hodge also put on 147 against Tasmania at the MCG in 2009-10.
