I basically see it attempting to RuneScape gold make a minigame. Sure it might not be popular at the long term but fresh minigames have been things that come to RuneScape so I'd rather they try. Hell who knows, perhaps this becomes the initial huge minigame of osrs that is not popular only because of bis items or xp. Itwill have its own servers and's not a minigame, however, it's a gamemode. A minigame is a game inside of RuneScape, that is not exactly what this is. It person mode, maybe not castle wars.

I frankly do not see why their are sport modes such as HCIM where even if its not the users fault they still drop Hardcore status even if it was due to a JAGEX server dc. I concur. There's no basic difference between a minigame such as Castle Wars and also an"choice game-mode" like Leagues. The largest problem with some thing similar to Leagues is possibly that it is seasonal, which may cause the rewards unattainable after a certain time, which I can see people taking issue with.
