I do not have Jagex directly saying skillcapes caused botting, only that RS2 had been out for more than two years before Skillcapes came out and we did not have uncontrolled botting. However within 6 months of Skillcapes being out F2P worlds were swamped with them and thousands were banned every week for buying gold. There were tons of other upgrades around those times also, and choosing one and saying"this caused botting" doesn't make it evidence that it did. Bots increase based on ease of access to computing, knowledge that Runescape is number of players generally, and one which can be botted for gain. Botting will always increase since the playerbase or celebrity of Runescape increases, because there is more money. This rise was not alone caused by skillcapes.

I don't have a counterargument to your point. I just felt like saying that personally, while in theory that the debate that Runescape will be better with them might be correct, I would be less interested in that match. Skillcapes and Max cape are why I made my 1 and only OSRS account and they are the reason I continue to play Runescape. If a single mechanic at a match is the driving force behind my 3000+ hours in said game, it's hard to participate in a thought experiment where it is removed. Just some thoughts.
