A 38-year-old construction worker died this morning after the elevator’s counterweight — an extremely heavy weight that aids in the elevator’s ascent and descent — fell on him at a Zamboanga City construction site, slicing him in half.To get more news about elevator counterweight, you can visit cntrueplate official website.

Radio station RMN identified the victim as Guillermo Barason Escapre. The incident happened at about 9:30am in a site on La Purisima Street, the same report added.

The grisly incident occurred when he was dismantling the elevator, which was inside a mall that was under construction, ABS-CBN News reported.

Chief Insp. Elmer Solon, chief of the Zamboanga City Police Station 11, told The Philippine Daily Inquirer that the victim was cutting the cable line of the elevator, failing to notice the elevator’s counterweight above him, which had an estimated weight of 500 kilograms.

“The balancer of the elevator was still attached and still above the position of the victim, that upon cutting, fell on the victim, which caused the amputation of the body,” Solon told the Inquirer.
