NEW YORK -- Milwaukees Carlos Gomez admitted he went too far with a hyped-up home run trot that ended in a benches-clearing scuffle against the Atlanta Braves. Kemal Ishmael Jersey . Gomez was suspended Thursday along with Atlantas Reed Johnson for one game by Major League Baseball for their actions during the Brewers-Braves game a day earlier. Both players were fined an undisclosed amount. Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman and catcher Brian McCann also were fined for their involvement. Gomez accepted the penalty and sat out the series opener against the New York Mets on Thursday. Johnson was contemplating an appeal, according Braves general manager Frank Wren. "I was expecting it after what happened last night," Gomez said. "Its not good for baseball. Just take it like a man and be responsible for the stuff I did." Batting second for the Brewers on Wednesday night in Atlanta, Gomez connected on Paul Maholms 0-1 pitch in the first inning for a long homer to left-centre field. Gomez, slammed his bat down and admired the drive in the batters box before starting a slow trot while shouting at Maholm. Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman had words for Gomez as he rounded the bag. Gomez continued shouting toward Maholm, and he pointed at his leg just before he rounded third base -- Maholm hit Gomez in his leg with an 88 mph fastball on June 23. An irate McCann, catchers mask resting atop his head, greeted Gomez about 20 feet in front of home plate. Benches and bullpens then emptied, and Johnson, a reserve outfielder, raced out of the dugout and shoved Gomez. Gomez, Johnson, Freeman and reserve catcher Gerald Laird were ejected. "It was such an unusual situation. Every time you get in a situation like this, in hindsight, theres probably things you wish you would have done differently, and I would say our players probably feel that way as well," Wren said before the Braves hosted the Phillies. "But I think the reaction was probably appropriate for the situation. It was one of the most unique things Ive ever seen." Gomez never finished his trot but was awarded his 23rd homer because of obstruction by McCann. McCann was furious at Gomez for yelling on his way around the bases, and the catcher stood by his actions on Thursday. "I thought he showed up our whole team," McCann said. "I did what any catcher would do in that situation -- sticking up for his team." After the game, Gomez was contrite and he apologized again Thursday. "I apologize to people from MLB, to my teammates, my team, the organization and the Braves," he said. "Its not really fun when everything happened like that." Brewers manager Ron Roenicke was satisfied with Gomezs apology and was hopeful that the incident wouldnt hinder the NL East champion Braves final push for best record in the league. "I dont want our actions to hurt what the Braves are doing." Roenicke said. Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez aggravated a left knee injury during the scrum and was not in the lineup Thursday. Rashard Causey Jersey. - Kyle Wood and Barclay Goodrow scored second period power-play goals to provide all of the scoring for the North Bay Battalion in a 2-0 victory over the Erie Otters in Ontario Hockey League action on Thursday. Vic Beasley Jr Jersey .ca MLB Power Rankings, the third consecutive week that the As have held top spot and the third straight week that they have been one ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays.PHOENIX - One moment Bill Vinovich was lifting weights to stay in shape for the NFL season, the next he was on a hospital bed overhearing doctors say the next 48 hours would determine if he would live.Eleven days of intensive care followed, then weeks of home rest, months of working himself back into shape.Three years later, he will be the referee at Sundays Super Bowl in Arizona.I never gave up, Vinovich said.He easily could have.It was April 2007, right after tax season when Vinovich, a certified public accountant, was bench-pressing as part of preparations for his fourth season as an NFL referee. He suddenly felt like someone had thrust two knives into his back, a pain that dropped to him to ground and sent him to the hospital.A CAT scan revealed Vinovich had suffered an aortic dissection, a tear inside the interior wall of the descending aorta, the major artery that carries blood out of the heart. The tear causes blood to flow between the layers of the blood vessel wall and can lead to aortic rupture or decreased blood flow to organs. The doctors told him it was inoperable.Officiating a football game was not on his mind.Whether he would live was.It was a scary time, he said.Once Vinovich got through the hanging-by-a-thread 48-hour window, he was told the survival rate for someone with a dissection that severe was about 2 per cent.He was lucky. They also told him he would never be allowed to officiate a game again. He was devastated.I started to cry, he said. But he wasnt going to let it stop him.A third-generation official — his father and grandfather worked football games for more than 30 years — calling games was in his blood and he was going to provee them wrong. Blidi Wreh-Wilson Jersey. .Once Vinovich got through the touch-and-go of the initial injury, he started working his way back in shape. The first couple of years, anything strenuous would wear him out. He also had a setback in 2011, when doctors had to repair an aneurysm in the ascending aorta in his heart. He kept pushing forward.I knew my body, I knew I could do it again, Vinovich said.He did.Vinovich started by officiating basketball games, something he had done in the past. He kept himself in shape despite the NFL, worried about the health risks, repeatedly telling him he could not come back.Vinovichs persistence paid off in May 2012, when he received an email from the league saying he had been approved for the 2012 season.I was almost stunned, he said. It brought tears to my eyes.Vinovich had a good enough first season back to work a divisional playoff game between Baltimore and Denver, and was the alternate referee for the Super Bowl. This season, he was the referee in the divisional playoff between Baltimore and New England, a game that included a bizarre formation in which the Patriots lined up a running back as an ineligible receiver.Vinovich managed that game well despite the controversy surrounding it, and his grade from the season was good enough to earn him the Super Bowl nod. There was a point where they werent sure Bill was even going to make it, and he was told that he would never officiate again, said Dean Blandino, the NFLs vice-president of officiating. He never gave up and hes standing here today, which is just a testament to his hard work and the human spirit.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Wholeslae Jerseys NFL Jerseys Cheap Wholesale NBA Jerseys Cheap NHL Jerseys Cheap MLB Jerseys Wholesale Soccer Jerseys Cheap College Jerseys Cheap Football Jerseys Cheap Basketball Jerseys Cheap Baseball Jerseys ' ' '
