When it came to running a franchise, there were no aspect that the player couldn't have control over. The amount of detail allowed players to truly feel like they are in the front office of an NFL franchise. EA appears to have done little beyond taking features out of the game mode regardless of its popularity.

The franchise mode of Madden NFL 22 felt almost as though it was a skeleton of what the developers wanted to accomplish. Although there are still some aspects like training and coaching players and firing them it's more of an impersonation than an actual experience. If you look at the features that the franchise had to provide a decade ago could be beneficial. Add some of the tweaks that were mode over the years. Combining old and new might make this year's franchise mode more attractive.

EA may go down the road of WWE 2K or Assassin's Creed should they decide to make Madden NFL 22 a popular game. The franchise could benefit from the time to rest for a year. This would allow developers to evaluate their current state and make plans for the future. When you consider that the team is upgrading the previous installment until January or December and they are also working on an August release for the next one, it's understandable why there haven't been ton of improvements over the years.

Even if the game didn't launch on a brand new platform, there's probably a small chance there'd be a year's break. The community should hope there are enough improvements and tweaks to improve the quality of this year's release as well as to provide an opportunity for improvement in the future.
