We do not have direct numbers on this Maple M Mesos

We do not have direct numbers on this, and even if we did Maple M Mesos we wouldn't have the ability to generate an immediate comparison. Fortnite Battle Royale announced 45 million players back in January, and it appears to have seen a massive expansion since then. It is available on more platforms than Maple Story and it is also free: it is a recipe for bigger amounts, to be sure, even if we can't be sure if bigger numbers translate to bigger earnings. That will be even truer when the game migrates to mobile, where a vast ocean of gamers is more than pleased to perform with without ever paying, thank you very much.

Even so, we could observe the ways in which Fortnite is presently controlling the dialogue. Drake joined Fortnite streamer Ninja to get a session to violate Twitch's record for parallel audiences on a single flow, and Ninja himself has been breaking documents for weeks now. Fortnite is the sport which Good Morning America does a fad piece on, Fortnite is your game your kids won't stop playing. Even though Epic releases a never-ending stream of new material for Fortnite, Maple Story struggles with cheaters and technical issues. A brand new, smaller Maple Story map appears to be an answer to Fortnite's popularity. The signs are there, with no doubt -- Fortnite is winning at an uneven fight.

In retrospect, this was always likely to take place. I wrote about this in the moment, but Maple Story's most important problem was that its allure was all concept whilst implementation lagged. The idea of 100 players dropping on a big map to scavenge weapons and fight it out struck a chord with all the gaming public, and the game climbed despite being at a somewhat rugged version of early access. That is exactly what occurred when Epic took a swing.

As a counterpoint, we will look at Overwatch. Overwatch did not invent the class-based shooter, just like Maple Story did not mmogdp Maplestory Mesos invent Battle Royale. But it popularized it in this moment and because of this it's observed a wave of imitators like Maple Story. Not one of these imitators have been able to match Overwatch's success, however, mostly because heavyweight doesn't actually start to describe a developer like Blizzard. It had the technical stability, marketing and development muscle to keep things clean. Other developers could do well imitating its achievement, but taking down it was just going to be near impossible.
