Brandon Sutter scored an empty-net goal for the Penguins, who trailed 2-0 early and also got goals from Crosby, Chris Kunitz and Kris Letang. Michael Grabner, Brock Nelson, Josh Bailey and Kyle Okposo had goals for the Islanders. Maatta scored his fifth of the season at 5:35 of the middle period to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead when the 19-year-old Finnish defenceman skated through the Islanders defence before sliding a backhand past Kevin Poulin. Letang scored at 17:44 after the Penguins league-best power-play unit kept the puck in the Islanders zone for nearly an entire man advantage. After hitting the post, Letang blasted the puck past Poulin for this 10th goal of the season to give Pittsburgh a two-goal cushion. Bailey pulled the Islanders within a goal at 4-3 at 3:10 of the third when he beat Zatkoff on a breakaway. The goal came after Matt Martin of the Islanders fought Pittsburghs Tanner Glass. But Malkin slapped a perfect cross-ice pass from James Neal past Poulin at 5:59 for this 14th goal. Malkin has points in 24 of 27 games since Nov. 1, with 11 goals and 30 assists during the stretch. "The emotion was there for both teams tonight as it always seems to be when we play the Islanders," Crosby said. "We found a way to stay strong and make key plays at the right times." Okposo received credit for a goal at 10:55 of the third to make it 5-4 after the puck crossed the goal line in a scrum in front of Zatkoff. The play was reviewed and the goal awarded, the 21st for Okposo. Sutter scored an empty-net goal for the Penguins at 19:56 to conclude the scoring. The Islanders surprised the Penguins with two quick first-period goals before the visitors answered with a pair of their own in the latter half of the period. Grabner whipped a loose puck past Zatkoff at 1:39. Then, Grabner set up Nelson at 8:21 to make it 2-0. Kunitz answered for the Penguins at 9:32 with a slap shot from the top of left circle past Poulin. Crosby and Maatta assisted on the 25th goal of the season for Kunitz, who will join Crosby on Team Canada at the Winter Games in Sochi next month. Then, Crosby tied it at 11:24 with his 27th goal of the season when he jammed a rebound past Poulin. "They play an aggressive style and they create opportunities," added Crosby, who also had two assists and leads the league with 72 points. The All-Pro linebacker, whos serving a six-game suspension for violating the leagues drug-abuse policy, was cited last week for speeding and driving with a suspended license, his second run-in with the law in less than a month. "Obviously, its something that were not happy about," Fox said Wednesday. "Everybody here has an individual responsibility not only to themselves but to this organization, as well as to this football team. So, obviously its something that were not pleased about. Ill leave it at that." Asked if he felt if this latest citation could result in a longer banishment for Miller, the Broncos coach said, "Youd have to ask the commissioner that. Thats not my lane." The NFL declined comment. Yet another traffic violation surfaced late Wednesday when the Denver Post reported that Miller has an open warrant for his arrest in California. A spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorneys Office told the newspaper that Miller has a warrant for failure to appear on a traffic ticket issued last year. The leagues conduct policy states that discipline is possible for "conduct that undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL, NFL clubs, or NFL players," and the commissioner has pledged to take a sterner approach with repeat offenders. However, traffic violations have generally not been a part of the leagues conduct policy. Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said Miller was cited on Sept. 5 near his home for speeding and driving with a suspended license. Hes due in court on Oct. 28. The traffic stop occurred at 10:30 a.m. on the day the Broncos kicked off the NFL season against the Baltimore Ravens, the first regular season game that Miller missed for repeated violations of the leagues drug-abuse policy. Robinson said Miller was pulled over for going 38 mph in a 25 mph residential zone and a routine computer check revealed he was driving with a suspended license. Miller was with his father, Von Sr., who was then allowed to drive the vehicle, a black BMW thats registered to Millers mother, Gloria, according to the summons and complaint. The officer who pulled Miller over wrote in capital letters on the summons: MUST APPEAR IN COURT, and he circled it. Miller was arrested on Aug. 10 when he tried to make a firearm purchase at a gun club near the Broncos practice facilities. A routine background check revealed he had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on multiple charges from last October, when he was cited for driving carelessly and lacking a license and proof of insurance. Millers teammates are "still going to be there for him and help him make good decisions all the time," linebacker and co-captain Wesley Woodyard said after practice. "Hes like my little brother, so Im always going to be tough on him. ... Im always going to tell him to do the right thing." Miller has been working out and attending meetings at Broncos headquarters but isnt allowed to speak with the media during his suspension. Marian Gaborik scored with seven seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and then scored 12:07 into the extra period to lift the Kings to a 3-2 victory Saturday night. Wresting home-ice advantage from the Ducks comes after the Kings staged a memorable comeback against San Jose, becoming the fourth NHL team to win a best-of-seven series after losing the first three games. "It was awesome. Really, it was what you expect," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "It was a physical game. I think the crowd really responded to that." Gaborik redirected Anze Kopitars shot past Jonas Hiller for the winner before being mobbed in the corner by his teammates. "We did a good job on the forecheck," Gaborik said. The Erie Otters captain was named the Ontario Hockey Leagues most outstanding player for 2013-14 on Tuesday. Brown led the league in scoring and set a franchise record with 45 goals and 83 assists in 68 games. Chosen near the bottom of both his OHL and NHL drafts, the 20-year-old Toronto forward has played himself into a strong pro prospect. He was the 251st pick out of 301 players four years ago in the OHL draft. The Leafs chose him in the sixth round, 156th overall, in 2012. His buddy Matt Finn, captain of the Guelph Storm and a fellow Leafs prospect, recently said "With Connor, its always been about proving people wrong." But Brown says his motivation is more about the pursuit of his dream than spite. "I definitely dont think much has come easy, being late picks in both drafts," he acknowledged during a conference call. "Its just more incentive to work hard. "I think I wanted to work hard not to prove people wrong, but I know I needed to work harder to have a shot at signing an NHL contract and having a shot at making the NHL one day." Brown has signed a three-year, entry level contract with the Leafs. He caught their eye in 2011 when scouts went to Erie, Pa., to evaluate Leafs prospect Sondre Olden. "Each time we went down to watch this Maple Leaf pick, wed stumble on Connor Brown," Leafs director of player Jim Hughes said. "Erie was having a difficult year and the scores, the deficits, never changed Connors desire, never changed his moods during the course of the game. "He was always focused and it didnt matter if he was winning 5-1 or losing 5-1, his personality never changed. He always played for the love of the game. He always played with passion. "I got really close last year at the John Deere (Classic) just before the Canadian Open. Im a little bit surprised its taken me quite as long to get back into contention. "But I feel like everything is right where it needs to be to have a week where I know I could put it all together. Ive improved a lot of little areas of my game and I feel like my game is consistently better." Hearns best career finish came at the 2013 John Deere Classic. He was tied with Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson after regulation but Spieth took the title by hitting a par putt on the fifth playoff hole. The 35-year-old from Brantford, Ont., is enjoying a short break before ramping things up in July. He plans to play at The Greenbrier Classic early next month before returning to the John Deere Classic. Entry in the British Open remains a question mark for now but Hearn is locked in for the July 24-27 RBC Canadian Open at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. He has yet to play the Ile-Bizard, Que., course but feels his game should be a good fit for the old-style, tree-lined layout.
