SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Major League Baseball is getting a new tool to verify the ages and identities of players from the Dominican Republic. Bob Gibson Jersey . More than 10 per cent of the players in the majors are Dominican. There have been a few known cases in which players signed contracts after using fake documents that gave wrong names and ages. The president of the Dominican Central Electoral Commission says league officials will now be able to access its national database of names and biometric data. Roberto Rosario says that should help reduce fraud among those aspiring to play professional baseball in the U.S. Dominican authorities are also pledging to investigate and prosecute document fraud involving players as part of an agreement signed with league officials Thursday. Tim McCarver Jersey . In a matter of days, he went from unwanted to wanted, from fired to hired, from discarded by the Philadelphia Eagles with reputation tarnished to rock star treatment and a new fat contract from the Washington Redskins. Jhonny Peralta Jersey . - Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has nothing but good problems right now. OMAHA, Neb. -- Virginia pitcher Josh Sborz slips a pinch of chewing tobacco between his cheek and gum every now and then, even though the NCAA banned the substance 20 years ago, "I enjoy the taste. Its not like Im addicted to it," Sborz said. "I just enjoy it, definitely. I do it maybe once a month or every other week." Sborz said this weeks death of Hall of Fame baseball player Tony Gwynn might give college players some pause. Gwynn died at 54 of oral cancer believed to be connected to his long use of chewing tobacco. "It should have an impact when such a star-studded players life was ended by the addiction he had. Its sad," Sborz said. Whether Gwynns death has any real impact is an open question and it comes amid some concerns: Baseball players acknowledging using spit tobacco at least once in the previous month rose from 42.5 per cent in 2005 to 52.3 per cent in 2009, according to the NCAAs quadrennial survey substance use trends among its athletes. Results of the 2013 survey have not yet been released, though preliminary results suggest a drop since 2009. About 15 per cent of teams in each NCAA sport are asked to participate in the anonymous survey, with a total sample size of about 20,000 athletes. Among all male athletes, 16 per cent acknowledged using tobacco in 2005 and 17 per cent in 2009. Sborz said he thinks the survey is "skewed" when it comes to ball players. "All those people dont do it every day," he said. "If people do it every day, thats where it becomes a problem. If they do it once every week, I dont see any issue with it." Minor-league baseball banned tobacco in 1993, a year before the NCAA. Tobacco is not banned in the major leagues. Though tins of tobacco arent visible in college dugouts like they were before 1994, that doesnt mean players arent dipping when theyre away from the ballpark. "Its 100 per cent part of baseball culture," said Virginia second baseman Branden Coogswell, who estimated half his teammates chew tobacco at least occasionally. Mike Shannon Jersey. "Its kind of a habit for people, kind of a comfort thing. Ive never been a part of that group, but so many guys do it. People take those risks. Its their choice." Dave Keilitz, executive director of the American Baseball Coaches Association, said he was surprised to find out so many baseball players were using tobacco. "I think most of our coaches, if not all of our coaches, are very aware of the danger and also dont want their players using it," Keilitz said. "In my 20 years of doing this, I havent seen any evidence of that taking place in dugouts, in games. I hope the same holds true in practice sessions." Keilitz said his organization adamantly opposes the use of smokeless tobacco and participated in the making of a video that illustrates the dangers. Virginia coach Brian OConnor said he chewed during his playing days in the late 1980s and early 90s. Like Keilitz, he was surprised so many players acknowledge using tobacco. "If kids are doing it, theyre doing a heck of a job of hiding it," he said. The NCAA said the ban was put in place as part of its charge to protect the safety and welfare of athletes. The penalty for violating the ban was left to the committee that oversees each sport. The Baseball Rules Committee instructed umpires to eject any player or coach who is using tobacco or who has tobacco in his possession. Enforcement was spotty until the committee made it a point of emphasis in 2003. In spite of the warnings the players receive, Texas coach Augie Garrido said he knows some members of his team chew tobacco. "Theres a lot more of it in Texas," he said, "because its not only about the baseball. Its about hunting, its about fishing, its about being a man." As for Sborz, he started chewing for a simple reason. "I saw an older kid do it, so I thought Id try to do it," he said. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

qualified for her first WTA main draw this week,

Hero worship is unbecoming for a man of 56 years. Shawn Kelley Jersey . But until December 2, 2014, Jean Beliveau was my idol. The last icon from a childhood in Montreal. Now he is gone and so is a connection to 1950s and 1960s Quebec, where Beliveau ruled hockey with a dignity and elegance never before seen and never seen since. It wasnt that he seemed larger than life. He was. Monsieur Beliveau - that is what he was called, never by the familiar Jean, by those in the Canadiens family - was without flaw. He was Le Gros Bill, a man of mythical stature. Of course, he could not have been perfect but we believed he was. As The Hockey News wrote: Regal on the ice, humble and diplomatic away from the rink, Beliveau made red, white and blue the colours of hockey royalty. At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Beliveau was among the first magnificent big men in the game during an 18-season NHL career. He was an unparalleled puckhandler, blasted bullets with his Victoriaville and had few peers as a playmaker. Beliveau placed among the top 10 in scoring nine times in a 10-season span, earned two Hart Trophies, won the first Conn Smythe Trophy and was a 10-time NHL all-star. Wayne Gretzky is the only centre to have more first or second all-star berths. And, of course, one of hockeys all-time team-first players won 10 Stanley Cups, the last in 1971 when he raised the Cup above his head … retired and took his place in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Beliveau was voted the seventh best player in NHL history when The Hockey News conducted a poll of 50 hockey experts in 1997. Beliveau, like all his contemporaries, has been surpassed statistically. His numbers have been dwarfed. He stands No. 39 in all-time goals (507), No. 49 in assists (712) and No. 39 in points (1,219). But it is worth remembering Beliveau ranked second (only to Gordie Howe) in all-time scoring when he retired. Even more significant to remember is that he ranks No. 1 to this day in another category. It is not hyperbole to call gentlemanly Jean the most respected player in the history of the game. He was the consummate captain, a natural leader of five Cup championship teams. But when his country came calling in 1994, offering the honorific Governor Generals position, family concerns kept Beliveau from accepting. It was the ultimate act of leadership. When I was 11 and living in Toronto, Beliveau made a promotional appearance at a local car dealership. My best friend and I took the bus across town to meet him. He signed all my hockey cards and answered all my questions. Before we left, another fan asked a question of Beliveau that tested his memory. When Beliveau hesitated, I provided the answer. Beliveau turned to me and said, You know more about me than I do. Beliveau was the yin to the legendary Rocket Richards yang on the only team to win five consecutive Cups. They were Gretzky and Messier. The Canadiens (and Beliveau) of the 1950s were so good the NHL had to change the rules of the game. At the time, penalties were served in their entirety - regardless of how many goals were scored with the man advantage. In a November, 1955, game vs. Boston, Beliveau scored three power play goals in a record 44 seconds. The following season, a player serving a minor penalty was allowed to leave the box when a goal was scored. Beliveau, himself, was no stranger to the penalty box. He collected 341 penalty minutes (with purpose) over a three-season period in the mid-1950s to carve out his own space during an era when stars were expected to stand up for themselves. Eventually, the Canadiens groomed John Ferguson to provide protection for their most precious asset. Beliveaus No. 4 was not immortalized in literature like Richards No. 9, but it had a power and magic all its own. Guy Lafleur, Beliveaus successor in the pantheon of Canadiens legends, wore 4 for the Quebec Remparts in the Quebec Colisee, dubbed The House that Beliveau Built, so great was Beliveaus popularity there in the early 1950s. Vincent Lecavalier, wearing No. 4, channeled Beliveau in style with Tampa Bay - and on celluloid when he portrayed Beliveau in the Rocket Richard film. But Beliveaus influence extends far beyond the best hockey league in the world. To this day, doubtlessly like hundreds of others of my vintage, I instinctively reach for No. 4 when the sweaters are hung at seasons start on my team. I will do it again next year. Anthony Rendon Jersey . Jovanovski, the 2012 champ seeded fifth, will meet surprise Japanese qualifier Misa Eguchi on Friday. COMMERCE CITY, Colo. Luke Kennard Jersey . - The Vancouver Whitecaps hadnt experienced a loss in over two months before falling to the Colorado Rapids 2-0 on Saturday. Dillon Powers and Vicente Sanchez both scored in the first half as the Rapids snapped the Whitecaps (5-3-7) franchise-best unbeaten streak at eight matches. But as head coach Carl Robinson saw it, it wasnt that big of a deal. "Weve lost one in nine," Robinson said. "I wont get carried away." Despite the loss, Vancouver had reason to celebrate as Whitecaps Mehdi Ballouchy, Steven Beitashour and Nigel Reo-Coker all made their returns after various lengths of absences. Ballouchy played 20 minutes in his first game in nearly 11 months since tearing his right ACL last season. He tore his left ACL two years ago, and played only five games for the San Jose Earthquake before the most recent injury. "Its been a long time," Ballouchy said. "When you do an ACL, you come back, and you do it again, these are long-term injuries. A lot of players dont come back. Its been a steep, steep hill and Im happy to be playing again." Reo-Coker was back in action after missing Wednesdays scoreless draw against Montreal to be in New York for the birth of his first child, while Beitashour was back after a long trek back from Brazil, where he played for Irans national team in the World Cup pool play. Vancouver hadnt lost since falling to Los Angeles 1-0 on April 19. It was the second of a brief two-game losing streak that started with a home loss to Colorado a week earlier. "Weve lost three games out of 15. Its not bad," said Reo-Coker. "Every team has spells like this — even the top teams. Were going through it now. We have so much belief and confidence in this team that were going to bounce back. Its a sign and test of how good we are." Reo-Coker said the birth of his daughter Scarlet changed his life "completely." "Its fantastic," he said. "Its something you cant put into words until you go through." He had a less memorable moment late in the first half when he fouled Sanchez in the box, leading to a penalty kick. Sanchez easily beat goalie David Ousted in the 36th minute to give the Rapids their second goal. "It was just miscommunication between David and myself," Reo-Coker said. "I saw David coming out and we kind of hesitated amongst each other, no one really took command of the full situation." Robinson had no issue with the call. "Second goal, it was a blatant penalty," he said. Powers hit the bar in the 17th minute and put a shot through the legs of a Vancouver defender three minutes later to give Colorado a 1-0 lead. The Rapids had another chance in the 27th minute, but were turned away by Ousted. Vancouver had two solid chances in the second half but Pedro Morales put a shot wide in the 63rd minute and Johnny Leversons laser in the 77th minute was saved by Clint Irwin. Colorado had 19 shots overall to Vancouvers five. "Were going to win games where we dont deserve to and were going to lose games we deserve to win," Robinson said. "Tonight we got what we deserved." Robinson didnt play Beitashour, opting instead to give him a rest after a long period of travel. "Beitas had three flights and in total its probably 16 hours of flying," Robinson said. "What I didnt want to do is risk an injury to him. I made the decision before the game." Terry Mills Jersey . -- Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman is undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone above his left eye but has no other serious injuries after being hit in the face by a line drive in a spring training game. Avery Bradley Jersey . important work on special teams, h

TSN Baseball Insider Steve Phillips answers several questions each week. Chad Henne Jersey . This week, topics include the "bean wars" between the Red Sox and Rays, Blue Jays draft pick Jeff Hoffman, Justin Verlanders struggles, and surprising all-star voting results. 1) In light of the “bean wars” between Tampa Bay and Boston, what should the league do to reduce the number of retaliatory on-field incidents? Are the suspensions enough of a deterrent? Major League Baseball has reduced the number of on-field violent confrontations in a pretty significant way from the 1980s and before.  The issuing of warnings to teams after a potentially intentional beaning has reduced the number of retaliatory responses.  As we saw in the Rays/Red Sox series, boys will still be boys but it is better now than it used to be.  Baseball also has a “heads up” program where umpires are alerted prior to a series about any bad blood that exists between the teams.  Umpires can issue warnings before a game if they believe the lingering animosity could surface.  This pregame warning serves as a deterrent and puts players on notice that at the first sign of monkey business there will be action taken.  There are two changes that I would make to further address this issue.  Firstly, I would encourage umpires to eject the instigator in a bean ball situation.  Too many times the pitcher who strikes first suffers no penalty.  Rays pitcher Davis Price hit Res Sox slugger David Ortiz with a pitch that may have been intentional.  The umpire chose to only issue a warning to both teams. That was done with the intent of heading off possible retaliation against the Rays. That warning didnt work and Brandon Workman, Red Sox pitcher, was later ejected for throwing a pitch behind Rays third baseman Evan Longoria. If Price had been ejected, then the Red Sox would not have felt as compelled to bean Longoria for payback.  Price didnt get a suspension at all. Second, I would institute a “no third-man in” policy.  If there is a fight on the field, no other player can leave his position on the field or in the dugouts and bullpen.  If they do then they face an automatic 10-game suspension. This should serve as a team deterrent that will keep all-out brawls from occurring. Thirdly, I propose that penalties become stiffer for the initial combatants as well.  If you fight, you know you will serve at least a five-game suspension for a position player and relief pitcher and a 15-game suspension for a starting pitcher.  It would be great to end all on-field violence.  It wont ever happen but these changes would get us a bit closer. 2) The Blue Jays used the ninth-overall draft pick on Jeff Hoffman on Thursday; a player who just underwent Tommy John surgery. What does this say about the Jays development strategy, especially in light of Alex Anthopoulos drafting habits in the past? The Blue Jays have been drawn to the high-ceiling type players in the first round under Anthopoulos.  They have shot for the moon.  They want impact from their first round pick.  Nowadays, many teams like predictability in first round selections.  They will take less impact and a lower ceiling for a greater likelihood that the player will get to the majors.  Not the Jays. Jeff Hoffman was thought to be one of the top three picks in this draft prior to injuring his arm and undergoing Tommy John surgery.  This selection makes a statement on so many levels.  First, the Jays believe that Hoffman is an extraordinary talent.  Why else would any team take a baseball player whose injury prohibits him from doing what he does best?  Secondly, the Jays believe in Tommy John surgery.  It isnt quite as predictable as getting ones tonsils removed but the track record of success is very good.  The Jays fully expect Hoffman to be 100 %.  Thirdly, the Jays are saving money.  Hoffman is a value because they took him with the ninth pick when many thought he could go as high as second overall.  With the injury, the Jays will likely save some money but they are also assuming some level of risk and that has dollar value. With multiple first round selections, the Jays gave themselves the financial flexibility to get their picks signed this year. The fact that Hoffman is a college pitcher means that he is a bit more advanced in his development than if he were a high school pitcher and therefore missing some playing time now should not set his development back much at all.  3) Justin Verlanders 2014 numbers have been less than inspirational. Hes 6-5 on a first-place club, has an ERA over 4.00, is presently sporting the worst WHIP of his career, and hasnt logged a complete game since 2012. Should the alarm bells be going off for the Tigers? The Tigers should be alarmed about Justin Verlander.  He is still a good pitcher but the dominant overpowering ace from a few years back is no longer on their roster.  Verlander has thrown 1,885 innings in eight and a half years, which includes seasons of 251, 240, and 238 innings pitched in individual seasons. He has thrown the most pitches in baseball this year. In fact, he has thrown the most pitches in baseball since 2009. He has led the league in pitches thrown every year but one from 2009-2014. In 2010 he finished four pitches behind Dan Haren for second most. Verlander is a workhorse. He loves to go deep in the game and he loves to strike out hitters.  He has been an amazing pitcher. The fact that he has such great stuff is a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing because he has won a ton of games for Detroit.  It is a curse because he has been so good that he works deep counts since he strikes out so many hitters.  And he has always been a better option for the manager than anyone in the bullpen, so he pitches deeper in the game. All of this has taken a toll.  He is wearing down a bit.  We have seen CC Sabathia fall off over the past couple of years because of the same reasons.  The arm only has so many bullets and they have both used their fair share.  Verlander can still be successful, but he is going to have to make adjustments.  Command has to be more important than velocity for him.  He used to regularly run his fastball into the high 90s.  He no longer can pitch there.  If he tries to generate too much velocity from delivery, his command suffers.  Verlander needs to try and retire hitters on three pitches or less with well-located pitches.  Velocity cant matter.  This will allow him to be more efficient now and give him more years on the back end of his career.  4) The most recent All Star vote tally had some very interesting results.  Torontos Melky Cabrera, is ranked third among AL outfielders in voting.  Orioles designated hitter, Nelson Cruz, passed Red Sox slugger David Ortiz for the top DH.  Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun is in a close race in the NL outfield as well.  Why are these results so significant?  All three of these players have served suspensions for performance enhancement drugs. Yet, the fans seem to be putting that aside as they consider their performances this year.  The fans believe that what they are seeing on the field is legitimate and real. They dont think it is enhanced.  It is just good ol fashioned baseball.  The All Star balloting has long been a popularity contest.  The fans votes dont always coincide with the players votes or the stats.  If the fans like a certain player, he has a shot to be an all-star regardless of his numbers.  What is even more amazing is that the fans arent holding grudges like they have in the past.  It had seemed that fans wanted to send a message to cheaters that their actions were unacceptable.  One of the few ways they could do that was with their voting.  But that feeling seems to be waning.  Fans are either forgiving the players for past wrongs or just accepting of what has happened to the game. Either way, we all win. I have learned that giving forgiveness is not for the other person but it is for me.  When I forgive someone they may react in any number of ways.  But when I give forgiveness it releases a burden on me. I no longer feel pain and resentment.  Baseball fans are showing healthy growth by surrendering their anger to baseball players.  It shows growth.  It shows a certain trust in the drug policy.  It shows compassion and understanding. My hope is that baseball writers will take the lead of the fans.  Writers feel duped by players.  They feel like they were made fools of for celebrating home runs and record-setting accomplishments.  They resent it and dont ever want to get burned that way again.  My hope is that the writers will move to a place of forgiveness of the players as well.  It is time to move forward.  The writers need to look at the steroid era as just that, an era.  It wasnt done to them.  It was just what happened and they were there to document it.  So they should document it.  Vote steroid users in the Hall of Fame.  Lets appropriately remember what happened so we dont repeat our mistakes.  The writers should make history by passing that history forward.  It is time to heal. It is the right thing for all of us that made mistakes in the steroid era of baseball.  So let this day start the all-out campaign for Melky Cabrera, Nelson Cruz and Ryan Braun for the All Star team! Stefan Charles Jersey . In many ways it was a celebration of how far the country has come and how much the sport has grown within it. In total, four Canadian players were selected - setting a league record - including three in the top 18, all from the Greater Toronto Area. For the second consecutive year Canada produced the top pick, 19-year-old phenom and Vaughan-native Andrew Wiggins, who will join last years No. 1 selection Anthony Bennett, Tristan Thompson and Dwight Powell - picked in the second-round of Thursdays draft - in Cleveland. Mississaugas Nik Stauskas followed suit, going to the Sacramento Kings at pick No. 8 before the Phoenix Suns - owners of the 18th pick - nabbed Brampton point guard Tyler Ennis, a player that sat atop the Raptors board when he heard his name called. It was a bittersweet moment for the 19-year-old Ennis, who was finally realizing his lifelong dream, albeit two picks away from beginning his career with his hometown team. The Raptors, drafting 20th, struck out on their top target but it wasnt for a lack of effort or interest. "We tried everything," Dwane Casey admitted shortly after the first-round concluded. "It just didnt work out." Masai Ujiri and his staff tracked Ennis throughout his freshman year at Syracuse and quickly became enamoured with his poise at the point guard position. Until recently they believed there was little chance he would fall to them, or even come close. With his stock fluctuating leading up to the draft, Ujiri hoped Ennis would be available to them, also exploring several scenarios to trade up and even entice the Suns to give him up after the selection had been made. With Ennis off the board, Ujiri opted for the next player on his wish list, Brazilian mystery man Bruno Caboclo "We decided we lost one," said the Raptors general manager, "were not going to lose the other one. So we jumped on it." The Raptors came that close to drafting what would have been the first Canadian selected in their 20-year franchise history, but given the rate in which the country is producing high-level talent its only a matter of time until that vision - which once seemed like a pipe dream - becomes a reality. "Ennis was a target for us but he was picked by another team," Ujiri lamented. "We will have Canadians on our team. Definitely we will have Canadian players on our team. Theyre all over the league now. The last two first picks have been Canadian." "We tried and it didnt work out this time," he conntinued, "but were glad theres a lot a lot of them in the league and eventually well get a couple of Canadians here, trust me. Vontae Davis Jersey. Itll come, well get them here." Thursday served as a friendly reminder, Canada isnt going anywhere. After hemming and hawing for weeks, the Cavaliers finally decided on Wiggins with their No. 1 overall pick. Decked out in a captivating black suit decorated with white floral print and topped off with a black bow tie, the one and done Kansas star couldnt hide his joy when first-year commissioner Adam Silver called his name. "A thousand thoughts are going through my head right now," Wiggins said minutes later. "Its a dream come true. Ive been dreaming of this moment since I was a little kid. My dream was just to make the NBA and now going to high school and college the opportunity of going number one came into talk and now I accomplished that. So its a crazy feeling right now. I dont even know how I feel. It doesnt feel real right now." "I always believed it," Stauskas added. "I believed in myself and I dont think many other people did but this is something Ive always felt is a possibility for me and I just kept working my hardest to make it happen. Its a cliche but dreams really do come true when you put all your effort into it." What could this night mean for the country? "I just think its huge," Wiggins said. "It opens doors for all the youth and everyone in Canada. It gives them hope. Because coming up when I was Canada, I wasnt ranked or nothing, I wasnt known. I didnt have no offers or anything like that. But I just kept my head straight and kept working on my game and look where I am today. So I just think it gives everyone hope that they can do the same thing and accomplish whatever I do because its possible if they work hard." The Raptors, like most of the 29 other teams, did pass up on four other eligible Canadians that went undrafted Thursday. Montreals Khem Birch, Calgarys Jordan Bachynski, Toronto-native and reigning Big 12 player of the year Melvin Ejim and the 7-foot-5 Sim Bhullar, also from the Toronto area, didnt hear their name called. Instead, Toronto opted for UConn forward DeAndre Daniels with an early second-round pick and traded the 59th overall pick to the Brooklyn Nets. Ujiri has maintained that if and when the Raptors do add a Canadian he wont be employed for his passport and he wont be sitting at the end of the bench. The pressure surrounding that type of player in that situation would be unfair, hes said. All four of the undrafted Canadian players are expected to catch on with Summer League teams, hoping to earn a spot on an NBA roster before weighing their options overseas or in the D-League. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

East Rutherford, NJ (SportsNetwork. Denny McLain Tigers Jersey .com) - It wasnt pretty, but the New England Patriots secured a first-round bye with a 17-16 win over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. Tom Brady completed 23-of-35 passes for 182 yards with one touchdown for New England (12-3), which will clinch the AFCs top seed if Denver loses at Cincinnati on Monday night. With the Patriots clinging to a one-point lead in the fourth quarter, Brady threw an interception while under pressure, a theme throughout the game. Cornerback Marcus Williams picked off the pass that deflected off wide receiver Brandon LaFells hands at the New England 31-yard line. The Patriots defense stiffened as a third-down sack by linebacker Donta Hightower forced a 52-yard Nick Folk field goal attempt that was tipped by lineman Vince Wilfork and landed short. New England ran out the remaining 5:16, converting a pair of third downs. Danny Amendola, filling in for Julian Edelman on both offense and special teams, was tackled near the marker at the New York 48-yard line after a screen pass on 3rd-and-7. Some confusion ensued as the ball appeared to be inches shy of a first down based upon a measurement. However, the official signaled a first down, leading to a unsuccessful challenge by the Jets. Brandon Bolden then ran around the right edge for 17 yards on 3rd-and-1 to seal the win. Geno Smith passed for 210 yards on 17-of-27 efficiency with a touchdown and one interception for the Jets (3-12). The New York defense hounded Brady right from the start, registering three first-quarter sacks. New England began the second quarter in New York territory after a 39-yard punt return by Amendola, who had eight catches on 11 targets for 63 yards in place of Edelman. The Patriots leading receiver missed the game with a concussion and a thigh injury. Brady capped the six-play, 36-yard drive with a touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski. The tight end lined up wide left and hauled in a back-shoulder fade from three yards out. The Jets tied the game at 7-7 when tight end Jeff Cumberland beat safety Patrick Chung on a seam route for a 25-yard touchdown catch. Center Nick Mangold was carted off the field with a left ankle injury during the 12-play, 87-yard drive. Folk kicked a 26-yard field goal to put New York up 10-7 late in a first half that saw New England limited to 52 yards. The Jets reached the red zone on their opening possession of the third quarter, but settled for a 23-yard Folk field goal. New England then changed its tempo on offense, going no-huddle, and had success moving the ball. The drive ultimately stalled at the New York 6-yard line and Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 24-yard field goal. Smith was then picked off by linebacker Jamie Collins on an underthrown pass to tight end Jace Amaro. The Patriots moved in front off the turnover as Jonas Gray ran for a 1-yard touchdown 1:09 into the fourth quarter. Folk made a 37-yard field goal with 7:53 remaining to cap the ensuing New York drive. Game Notes New England head coach Bill Belichick earned his 230th career win, surpassing Curly Lambeau for sole possession of fourth place in NFL history .... New York wide receiver Percy Harvin (ribs) left the game and didnt return ... The Jets outgained the Patriots 307-231 ... Brady was sacked four times overall. Ian Kinsler Jersey . But on this night he was overshadowed. The game was the Senators first since the tragic events at the National War Memorial and Parliament Hill this past Wednesday. A touching tribute took place prior to puck drop as players and fans united to commemorate the loss of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent. The Senators were hoping to give the sellout crowd of 19,266 something to celebrate after the emotional week, but fell just short as Jagr scored at 3:39 of overtime with the man advantage.I was hoping to score 4-on-3, said Jagr. It was a great opportunity because we had a whole two minutes 4-on-3 and with the players weve got we should be able to score. It was a great opportunity for us.The Devils, who were coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to Dallas on Friday night, were relieved not to have to go to a shootout. The Devils havent won a shootout since March 10, 2013.Marek Zidlicky and Damon Severson also scored for the Devils (4-2-2), who snapped a four-game winless streak. Cory Schneider faced 35 shots. That was a big win, said Devils coach Peter DeBoer. We needed that. As a group we wanted to make sure we came up and played a solid game here after (Fridays) game and I thought we did that and got rewarded for it.Alex Chiasson and Bobby Ryan scored for the Senators (4-2-0) as Robin Lehner faced 29 shots. The loss snapped the Senators four-game winning streak. The Senators hadnt played since last Saturday as the game scheduled against the Leafs this past Wednesday was postponed due to the tragedies in Ottawa.Trailing 2-1, Ottawa tied the game on Ryans power-play goal midway through the third, but were unable to complete the comeback. You cant faault the effort, it was there, said Ryan. Anthony Gose Tigers Jersey. I thought we took over the game in the third for a bit and for large portions of it.The Devils, who had a slow start to the game, came out with a better effort in the second and as such held a 2-1 lead.Ottawa scored first as Chiasson took a pass down low and beat Schneider high stick side at the ten-minute mark, but the Devils tied it less than two minutes later on Seversons unassisted goal.Severson took advantage of an Ottawa turnover along the boards at centre ice and came down to beat Lehner high over the shoulder.Losing two games in a shootout isnt fun, obviously you want to win those games, said Severson, a Manitoba native who was playing his first game in Canada. We knew we would come in here and face a tough test, but going into overtime we were real confident we could pull out the two points and we did.New Jersey took the lead on Zidlickys power-play goal from the point. The game remained scoreless after the first period despite a couple of good chances by both teams.Michalek, who continues to look for his first goal, had a great chance at the side of the net, but just couldnt bang it in.The Devils put three solid shots together, but couldnt get anything past Lehner.Lehner said the Senators first period was probably one of its best this season. Our first period we played fantastic defensively, Lehner said. They took over a little bit in the second and they capitalized on our mistakes a little bit and we had a great third again and didnt give up. I thought we gave ourselves a really good chance of winning the game.NOTES: The Senators were without Marc Methot (back, indefinite). Jared Cowen, Erik Condra and Colin Greening were healthy scratches for Ottawa. The Devils were without Jordin Tootoo (foot, indefinite), and Martin Havlat (facial lacerations). NEWARK, N. Danielle Hunter Jersey .J. - Ottawa Senators goalie Craig Anderson felt he was playing well even if the results showed otherwise.Anderson put it all together against New Jersey on Wednesday night, making 34 saves in the Senators 2-0 win over the Devils.Kyle Turris provided the offence with a pair of goals. The spotlight clearly belonged to Anderson, who was 2-6-2 in his previous 10 starts.Things werent going as badly as they looked, Anderson said. I just had a couple bad bounces here and there. Hopefully, my luck changed for the good tonight.Anderson had some luck, but he was also very good. You have to give Craig Anderson credit, Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. We looked like we could have shot 100 pucks, and nothing was getting by him.Anderson earned his third shutout of the season and 29th in his NHL career. New Senators coach Dave Cameron improved to 2-1-1 since he replaced the fired Paul MacLean. The Devils, whose losing streak was extended to five games, went 0 for 5 on the power play — stymied by Anderson throughout.Turris gave the Senators a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 2:47 in on Ottawas first shot of the game. Turris was off balance as he deflected Erik Karlssons point shot past Cory Schneider for his first goal in 11 games. He added an empty-net goal in the final second of the game. The Devils, lethargic at the start, picked up their game after falling behind. New Jersey outshot Ottawa 10-4 in the first period but couldnt beat Anderson.Patrik Elias, activated from the injured list earlier Wednesday, came closest with a drive that rang off the post. The frustration built for the Devils in the scoreless second period as they outshot the Senators 16-4.Anderson came up with save after save and stopped Jaromir Jagr twice early in the period. The first was Jagrs power-play blast from the left circle. Anderson later stretched to make a skate stop on Jagr, denying a 2-on-1 break with Scott Gomez.Anderson was on his toes throughout the period. One of his best stops was made with two minutes left when he turned aside a wrist shot by Elias.New Jersey kept pressing in the third, and Anderson made early close-in stops on Elias and Adam Henrique. We were all over him, getting pressure, but weve got to find a way to get one in, Henrique said. That game was there for us. Its a tough one to give up.Anderson almost scored in the final seconds into the empty Devils net, but his clearing shot rolled just wide.Ive waited my whole life for a chance like that and I may never get it again, Anderson said. I hooked it a little, considering Im a lefty. I knew I had to get it up in the air to have a shot. I thought it was in.The Senators, while happy with the victory, know they wont win many games being outshot 34-16.I dont think this was a game that we necessarily deserved to win, but well take it, Turris said.NOTES: The Devils opened a four-game homestand following a stretch of 15 of 20 games on the road. ... Expecting huge crowds to see rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel compete with Brian Hoyer for the starting job, the Browns want fans to register online to attend training camp. Cleveland can accommodate only about 5,000 fans at its facility. Browns President Alec Scheiner told The Associated Press the team will ask fans to sign up beforehand so "we dont turn away 2,000 or 3,000 fans who just show up." Scheiner said the team will announce when capacity is reached, but fans can still come and wait to get in. The team is working out final details of the registration. Camp will remain free. Manziels arrival has created a buzz around the Browns, who moved up in the first round of the NFL draft to select the celebrated Heisman Trophy winner who hangs out with rapper Drake and has NBA superstar LeBron James as a business partner. Scheiner said the Browns season-ticket base has grown by more than 4,000 since Manziel was picked. His No. 2 jersey is on store shelves in the Cleveland area and is already one of the leagues top sellers before he has played in a game. Manziel is currently behind Hoyer on the depth chart, and theres no guarantee hell move up when the season starts. But that wont stop fans from flocking to see Johnny Football, who caused a stir last weekend by taking a trip to Las Vegas. Manzieel was in Los Angeles on Friday with 34 other rookies to attend a rookie symposium run by the players union. Jerick McKinnon Jersey. The Browns set attendance records at training camp last year and Scheiner anticipates this years crowds to be "a little bit better." "Its exciting, and its fun," he said. "Were getting better." Scheiner, who spent eight years with the Dallas Cowboys before he was hired by Cleveland after the 2012 season, said the Browns have begun looking into moving their camp to a college campus. The team previously trained at Bowling Green (1946-51), Hiram (1952-74), Kent State (1975-81) and Lakeland Community College (1982-91) before holding camp in Berea, the year-round training headquarters. Scheiner points to the many challenges in moving training camp, including transportation costs, getting practice fields up to NFL specifications as well as housing. "Well look at it," he said. "If theres something that makes sense, well look at it. If theres not, we wont. But were going to start looking at it carefully." If the Browns do move camp, Scheiner expects the new site to be within driving distance of Cleveland. Last year, the Browns drew 56,306 fans to their 13 open practices at the training facility and a family night session at FirstEnergy Stadium. They averaged 2,475 fans per practice in Berea and set a one-day record of 4,466. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

DUNEDIN, Florida – Blue Jays manager John Gibbons knows theres a lot at stake this season. Javier Baez Jersey . Coming off a disastrous 2013 year, relative to expectations perhaps the most disappointing in franchise history, the club could be dealing with significant upheaval if theres continued, sustained underperformance. Gibbons sat down with TSN.ca before Thursdays Grapefruit League game against Houston to talk about his team, in which he espouses confidence. To listen to the interview, click here. TSN.ca: John, as we sit here, two weeks from tonight you guys will be flying to Montreal for the final two exhibition games of the spring. GIBBONS: Cant wait. TSN.ca: Old stomping grounds for you, right? An ex-Met, did you have some fun in Montreal in your day? GIBBONS: Yeah, you know I wasnt up with the Mets long but I made a few road trips to Montreal. I loved it. I really did. Its a neat city. Its a little different than what were used to or what Im used to but we always had a good time there. Good people. I enjoyed hopping on that subway, riding it to the stadium there so I have some good memories of that place. TSN.ca: Parlez-vous Francais? GIBBONS: Poquito. Oh thats not French, okay. You learn a lot of Spanish around here. Ill put it that way. TSN.ca: Yeah, theres no question about that in your clubhouse. So were three, three and a half weeks in since all the regulars got here. The tone of camp, at least from my point of view, John, is different from last years and there were a lot of mitigating factors with the WBC and whatnot last season. How do you feel camp has gone so far and where do you see your team at today? GIBBONS: I agree with you. I think theres a lot more focus and thats not just coming from the coaching end of it. I think the players are a lot more focused. Last year there was a lot of distraction. A lot of new faces were brought in and the high expectations, much more media coverage so the players were getting dragged in a lot of different directions. We had some celebrities on here. We brought in Dickey coming off a Cy Young. Of course Reyes and those guys coming in and everybody was tugging at all different angles so there were some distractions that way. Good distractions but nevertheless distractions and then of course some guys went off to the WBC and things like that. Its been a much nicer, simpler camp, a lot more low key and weve been able to get some great work in. TSN.ca: As you head into the regular season I think there are some questions about certain positions around the club. The starting rotation, especially the back end, has been a hot topic of conversation. More broadly speaking, the American League East, I think we both agree is always strong but has gotten better. Do you feel you have the quality of starting pitching that matches the quantity of the depth that youll have at Buffalo and in the lower minor leagues. GIBBONS: I think we do. Not a whole lot of change this year other than Navarro. You know, Alex was working all winter trying to bring in a pitcher or two, difference makers. We werent able to do that. It wasnt for a lack of effort. The money, the years, all sorts of things, their desire to go other places hampered that a little bit. There were a couple of trade opportunities but they wanted everybody and their brother top prospects in the minor leagues. After the trades with Florida and the Mets we gave up a lot of our top prospects so, I mean, theres no way you can deplete your whole minor league system to get guys who maybe arent difference makers. We sat tight there. The main reason behind that is we like what we have here. Theres much more depth, like you just alluded to, that we didnt have last year. If somebody falters or if theres an injury weve got some guys, some fallback plans that we think are pretty good that should make a huge difference. As of right now were still looking for that fifth starter. Weve got some guys that are pitching very good. Theres been some good competition down here. Right now, were probably only looking at one spot. J.A. Happ, now, hes been a little bit banged up with his back so at this point, on this day, hes a little bit of a question mark. Hopefully hes going to throw in the next couple of days in a minor league game. If hes fine that should solve some problems there. You know, theres some guys in here that we think are going to have some good big league careers. Now its just are they going to get that opportunity? They may get it as we break camp as we start the season this year. It may come a month in. It may come in two months. Who knows? Weve got some players here who we think are capable of winning in the American League East. Theres some great competitors and well see where it all ends up. TSN.ca: Do you anticipate Drew Hutchison breaking camp with the team? GIBBONS: Well, Im not going to say hes on the team right now but Ill tell you what, hes pitched as well, if not better, than anybody in camp and another thing he has going for him, you know hes really bounced back from that injury, but hes pitched in Toronto before and was pitching very well before he had the injury. Hes got a little experience under his belt. Hes definitely been a standout. Hes always been thought of highly in the organization. Its just basically a matter of time when hes ready again and it sure seems like, you look at it now, he should be ready to go. TSN.ca: Do you believe in the phrase, "Its early?" Especially after last year maybe you dont but getting out of the gate strong, John, aside from having more wins than losses, just setting the right tone I think would be important for you guys this year. GIBBONS: It was early three weeks ago. Its not so early anymore, a couple of weeks left. Yeah, no question, a quick, fast start is very important to this ballclub. Easier said than done, of course, you know we play some pretty good teams early. I think what it would do is give us confidence and it may quell some of the naysayers out there because until we go out and prove something on the field that were better than we were last year and we actually do have the team that we think can win here, thats always going to be hanging over our heads. These guys, theyve been working hard, theyre very focused and now the key is to come out of the gates with everything clicking. Weve got to get good pitching. Hopefully those bats are going at the right time at the beginning of the season and something thats a constant, one thing you can always control, is the way you play defense and I think that will be much, much better this year. TSN.ca: I wanted to touch on that with you because when we think of winning, youve got to score more runs than you allow and we typically always think of offense, just hit the ball out of the park or piece together runs. We dont always think of run prevention. Well cross our fingers for you guys that you have pretty good health here, and you have so far through camp and that that will carry through. But with Lawrie at third, Reyes and short and it looks like Ryan Goins at second base, as long as theyre all out there on the field at the same time, weve seen some pretty sweet double plays and some pretty nice plays made here, John. Youre going to be able to prevent more runs than you did, especially in the first half of last year. GIBBONS: We think so and we have to. You left out Melky Cabrera, who wasnt moving well at all last year and so that created a big hole out there in leftfield. With the guys you just mentioned, we think we have one of the better defenses in baseball, in our minds. As much as our starting pitching struggled last year, we didnt bail them out, we didnt help them out one bit, especially early in the season. A lot of those games, a play thats made here or there, might have got us out of an inning, a big inning and kept us in the game and we may have come back and won some of those. You look at it, you can go through any sport, if you dont play defense youre not going to win. Boston was a good defensive team last year and they won the World Series. Football, another sport I know well, the Seahawks last year, great defense, the best defense in the NFL. Theres no secret there. We think we have a good one but the key is weve got to keep the right guys on the field the majority of the season. TSN.ca: The Red Sox, maybe they didnt have the best team on paper in the majors last year but they won the World Series and there was that grind it out aspect. When youve walked around the clubhouse, talked to your players or youve had them in here one on one, do you sense that there is an unquestioned willingness to grind it out this year? Kind of a win at all costs mentality? GIBBONS: Yes, I do. Weve got a lot of proud veterans out in that room. Some guys whove had some great careers, some guys on the upswing that are going to end up having real good major league careers but everybody was a little embarrassed, the way things went last year. One thing Ill say about this group last year, through all the different changes, all the guys coming and going, there never was a lack of effort. Thats rare when some seasons go south but our guys showed up to play everyday and I tip my hat to them and thats admirable and thats the way it should be but thats not always the way it ends up. They all know they have something to prove, that were a better team than the way we played last year and I sense that. They talk about that. To get to this level as an athlete, to get to the top at anything, youve got to have some pride. We have a lot of that in that room and I think, I dont want to say necessarily that were going to surprise some people because we think we have a good team on the field, we think we had a good team on the field last year it just didnt pan out, but if we play up to our capabilities we think weve got a chance to win this thing. TSN.ca: Its an everyday game so youre always at the field and youre always thinking about, okay, what do I have to do to win today? But when you get away from the ballpark, do you think give any thought to your future and the fact that if it doesnt go well again this year, John, fairly or unfairly, itll be a hard sell to the fan base to continue with you as manager and the coaching staff? There could be changes here if it doesnt work out. GIBBONS: Oh yeah. Thats to be expected in the professional sports world. I can guarantee you one thing, I wont be here forever. Thats a fact. When that day comes, sooner or later, who knows? I dont give that much thought because I approach my job everyday to do the best job I can. I have a great responsibility to the organization whos given me an opportunity here and theres a lot that goes into that. Thats the reality of baseball. I have some fans out there but I also have a lot of detractors. When the dark clouds show up you start hearing more of those voices. If you get caught up in that kind of stuff itll paralyze you, you cant do your job so I take it all in stride everyday because I know I can do this job, I know I can run a baseball team, Ive got zero doubt in my mind about that. Things dont always work out but I think this year it will. TSN.ca: We appreciate the time, John, and all the best this season. The summertime road trip that captivates Canadian communities is back – and its bigger than ever before. Roma Jerseys . Now in its sixth consecutive year, the award-winning Kraft Celebration Tour launches Tuesday to help Canadians build better places to play. Whether thats creating parks, improving baseball fields, or upgrading basketball courts – Kraft Canada and TSN want to celebrate and inspire communities to become active. Beginning Tuesday, Canadians can nominate their project at kraftcelebrationtour.ca for the chance to win $25,000 towards building a better place to play in their community. New this year, one Top 10 community project will win a $100,000 grand prize – as decided by Canadians through two days of voting. All winners will also host a live broadcast of Canadas most-watched sports news program, TSNs SportsCentre, as part of this summers cross-country tour from August 15-24. Leading the special SportsCentre broadcasts are anchors Darren Dutchyshen, Jennifer Hedger, and Kate Beirness. A fourth host will be announced in the coming months. By the end of this years campaign, SportsCentre will have marked 60 on-the-road live broadcasts across Canada. "We believe that healthy, active living starts with having places to play," said Jack Hewitt, Vice President, Consumer Insights and Portfolio Marketing, Kraft Canada.  "Were very proud of the Kraft Celebration Tour and our ability to support recreational facilities in cities and towns coast to coast. Its inspiring to watch communities rally around a common goal and show such incredible hometown pride." "Canadians have shown a tremendous outpouring of support for the Kraft Celebration Tour, and their passion demonstrates the power of sports at a grassroots level," said Stewart Johnston, President, TSN. "We are immensely proud to take SportsCentre on the road once again and give back to Canadian sports fans by helping them build better places to play." Thomas Vermaelen Jersey . Richie Incognito filed a grievance Thursday against the Miami Dolphins over his suspension. The NFL Players Association released a statement late in the afternoon saying the veteran guard filed a non-injury grievance. "The grievance challenges his suspension for conduct which was alleged to have occurred while he was with the club," the unions statement said. "In the grievance, Incognito requests that the hearing be held on an expedited basis so that he can immediately resume playing for the team. "The NFL Players Association will continue to protect the rights of all players." Incognito was suspended by Miami on Nov. 3 for misconduct related to the treatment of teammate Jonathan Martin, who abruptly left the Dolphins late last month to receive help for emotional issues. The NFL is investigating whether Incognito harassed or bullied Martin. Incognito has said the conduct was all part of the normal locker room environment. Clement Grenier Jersey. ESPN first reported the grievance. Incognito has missed one game, and the suspension by the team can last for four games. The Dolphins, who have not said how long Incognito is suspended, said they do not comment on grievances. Martin is scheduled to meet Friday with Ted Wells, the independent investigator hired by the NFL. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross also plans to meet with Martin. A second-year pro, Martin left the team because of what his attorney has alleged was daily harassment by teammates, including Incognito. On Monday, Ross announced the formation of two committees to examine the Dolphins locker room culture. In recent days, players have been virtually unanimous in saying it doesnt need to be changed. The case has inspired a national debate about workplace bullying. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys ' ' '
